Device Agreement
Meridian Elementary School
Student Devices
All students will be issued a Chromebook/laptop and a pair of headphones during the first week of school.
If reasonable precautions and care are taken in the use of the device, the Chromebook/laptop should not experience physical damage. Each parent/guardian should review this form carefully with their child.
Failure to sign and return this form will result in the student not being able to take home the Chromebook/laptop and may result in limited use at school.
Educational Use
All devices issued to students are to be used to access education only.
Students will be expected to follow the guidelines below and take precautions to protect the device. Students are responsible for taking care of the device.
Students who have not followed this agreement will be responsible, at the family's expense, for replacing either the Chromebook/laptop and/or the headphones at the replacement cost.
Usage Guidelines
In general, all students are expected to use good judgment and common sense!
Students should be safe, appropriate, and careful when using the school device.
Please encourage your child to use and store the device in an open and safe area of your home, such as a kitchen or family room. If this is done, it helps ensure they are safe with the laptop as well as being on appropriate websites.
Hardware and Device Modifications
Any attempt to repair, remove, or install hardware, such as opening the laptop to access internal parts, is prohibited.
Writing, drawing, painting, defacing, or placing stickers or labels on a school-owned laptop will result in a violation of our Meridian Elementary School behavior matrix. The student will receive consequences based on the severity of the misuse and/or damage done.
Damage
Meridian will make every effort to repair the damaged device. We will report the damage to our technology department, who will then make a full damage report and repair cost estimate.
The student and/or the student's parent/guardian shall be responsible for any losses, thefts, or damages to the Chromebook/laptop.
Device Monitoring and Privacy
Chromebooks/laptops are considered the property of Meridian and are not subject to the same privacy expectations as private property.
Meridian will monitor the device through different methods of observation. Teachers and administrators will monitor device use to ensure the devices are being used for educational purposes only.
Students can log into their devices with their Meridian account. Any attempt to change this is prohibited and will be treated as such.
